Outriders developers People Can Fly have emphasized on no few occasions that this is not a typical live service looter shooter, and though it does seem like the upcoming RPG shooter is going to differ from other games of its kind in several ways, it still is a game that puts a lot of emphasis on co-op and multiplayer. Voice chat is a pretty important feature for a game like that, but sadly, it’s a feature it doesn’t have yet.

GamingBolt recently got the chance to sit in on a group interview with the game’s creative director Bartek Kmita and lead game designer Piotr Nowakowski, who explained that voice chat was a feature that had to be taken out of Outriders due to “technical” and “legal” complications. Though they did not elaborate on what they meant, they assured that they’re aware it’s a feature that the game needs and is lacking, and that People Can Fly will be attempting to find a solution to this problem.

“Definitely, we are aware of that,” they said. “In fact, we had that element some time ago. But let’s say that from the technical, legal side of things we had to remove it. But definitely we’ll try to figure out something because we fully understand that’s the missing part that should be there. It’s not there because of several different aspects that we need to consider here. But we know it will be helpful. We are aware of this, let’s say that.”

Outriders is out on April 1 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. A demo of the game is also available on all those platforms (except Stadia) in case you’re on the fence about buying the game. If you’re planning on playing the game on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, you’ll be able to get it through Xbox Game Pass on the day of launch itself.
