I read the books and played the games......
ftphenom95120 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was terrified when news was first released about this TV show adaptation of The Witcher book series. I didn't want some random TV writers ruining a great part of my childhood (the books) while simultaneously ruining a great part of my young adulthood (the game series). I thought it would be impossible for a TV series about Geralt n' crew to be anywhere near this good. God answered my prayers people. Damn good people built and molded this series into (dare I say it) Game of Thrones S1-7 quality!!! To be completely honest episode one was an average opening. Its how the show progressed through the 7 remaining episodes that made it so spectacular. All the great parts of the first and second books are used and God did I have a mile wide grin on my face watching some of these scenes come to life. The last time I felt this good about a TV series was back in 2013 when Game of Thrones season 3 ended. Its quite the feeling. If you've read the books or played the games have no fear, the people that made this adaption keep you very comfortable while watching. I can't wait for season 2! By the way, if you don't like the fantasy genre, this is still an amazing watch in its own merit. Acting, writing, directing, cinematography, the lot of it. This show will please any viewer, guarenteed.

Final good season ahead, and then it's downhill...
thepolishgirl15 November 2022
I expect the 3rd (and final season of The Witcher that I'll ever watch) to be a good one - chiefly so because of Henry Cavill. To have an actor with his resources and his love for the source material WANT to play Geralt is trully a God-send. I've already downloaded the Henry Cavill face extensions for all my Witcher games; in my mind's eye he will always be Geralt. It is absolutely mind-boggling that having him, having the other cast members, the producers made the decision to slaughter the goose that lays golden eggs. I suspect this will top the blunder of Firefly in terms of fans and revenue lost. With all the love I have for Liam - he is simply not Geralt, and no amount of make up, white wigs or leathery body armour can change that. R. I. P., best fantasy ever brought to life. It's been a good run. One day, in a decade or few, perhaps a new hero will rise, loving the original story as Henry does, hopefully having at least a fraction of Henry's looks and dedication to this character, and we'll give it another go. Hopefully I'll live to see that day.

Wheel of Time shoulda taken notes
akkzcend16 December 2021
After suffering through the first 6 episodes of Wheel Of Time series, Season 2 of The Witcher reminded me what good fantasy looks like. This show captures the essence of the characters and storyline, and the cinematography is resounding. I was fully drawn into the first episode of the new season and got lost in the worldcrafting. Unlike WoT that makes me wonder what odd art exhibit I stumbled into. The Witcher casting really brings the stories alive and doesn't leave a bit of doubt in your mind, just wanting to know/see more.

CRITICS ARE DEAD WRONG
crtorresart23 December 2019
What exactly is the point of a professional critic? Clearly it's not to help viewers decide what to watch because the audience for this show absolutely loves it. Television critics are so wildly out of touch with what the public wants - the Witcher nails it, fills the dark fantasy hole left by Game of Thrones without being anything like it, and is a story masterfully told. Maybe if a single critic actually bothered to watch the entire series they would have picked up on the gifted storytelling and not felt so lost. Also, probably the only game adaptation that's been successful, ever. I know it's a book as well, but that's besides the point. Players of the game will be in heaven. Must watch. I'm hooked. Keep it coming!

Cavill is awesome!
tpdsgt-903266 November 2022
Love the show! Henry Cavill really sells Geralt character. All actors seem to blend together well. What makes a show great is the chemistry between the actors/characters, not the writing. Changing any character will disrupt the chemistry. Just heard Cavill will be replaced? I'm sure who ever replaces him will be a good actor but it will change the chemistry. I can't think of any show that did not suffer from changing the main actor. I'm sure there are a few but the odds are that the show will suffer. If the show suffers it will affect ratings, which will increase the chances it will get cancelled. This would be very disappointing. Because of this, I WILL NOT WATCH IF HE IS REPLACED!!!!! Why do they always feel they need to sabotage and ruin a great show! REMEMBER, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

Underwhelming
iqei29 July 2020
Bad casting bad timeline, just left me bored and laughing when it shouldn't be, Henry Cavill did a great job though just wished if they made him look older. If this show has been made by HBO I think it would be vastly different and much much better in my opinion.

Disappointing
Gwynbleidd2115 June 2020
I've played the Witcher 3, Read the books and I feel this is so much below expectations and I think the non witcher fans will feel even worse. Loads of miscasting specially Yennefer, Triss and Fringilla with forcing the existence of black people for no reason, average CGI, Timeline is a mess.. The positives are only Geralt and Dandelion scenes..

MTV the witcher
cool_mrz21 December 2019
2 episodes in, really wanted to like this. Production and budget seems high but casting and acting is awful. Henry Cavill as Geralt is actually really good but everyone else is pathetic. There is a reason why GoT cast is almost only brits, this is laughable. Such a waste.

As a fan of both the books and the games i feel the series respects its Origins. Henry plays geralt brilliant and paus homage to the game version.

I just love this show. It brings another fresh perspective to Sapkowski's books and it's amazing to see it on screen. I already watched it twice and it made me replay The Witcher 3! So well done 🇵🇱🇵🇱🎥🎥💪💪

For everybody who was sceptical about Henry Cavill, he nailed it! I played the witcher 3 game and have to say i didnt expect much, but i got a lot. The story, the clothes, the surroundings, wonderfull! Hope they bring out all 7 seasons they allready have written. Best way to start the holiday season, watch this and you won't regret it!

Very very very laughable
blazaroo21 January 2020
Is this a joke? I mean really?!!!! I waited two years for this series after Netflix gave the green light for the Witcher and the acting is just atrocious.the story all over the place. AND YES I KNOW THEY'RE SET IN DIFFERENT TIMELINES, but doesn't take away the fact it's just a bad show. Henry Cavill is the only BEST part about the show and even then...... it's like I'm just watching man of Steele dressed as an elf wig blonde hair and magic SMFH. If you want to watch a decent c- acting movie, do yourself a favour and go and type in Witcher parody. You'll get much better acting with bonus SATISFACTION.

Poor Season 2
mehmetcik-1655218 December 2021
Am I the only one who thinks that season 1 was a lot better than season 2?

I don't know why but season 2 couldn't catch me... Maybe its because I've read the books.

Toss a coin to your witcher
craighunt5924 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'd like to start by saying this series is everything I could have wished for and more! As a huge fan of the games I was excited but apprehensive about the series, but as soon as Geralt put a sword through that poor guys mouth and then ripped it through his head I was officially hooked! Caville has mastered a very unique style of fighting that is not only impressive but so different to anything I have seen on screen before I truly believed he was a witcher! I love all the characters and I think the 3 timelines they follow really give you an understanding of the world you are in. It's important to understand that this is a true fantasy and is a lot more focused on magic and monsters than other series that it has been compared to. I can see this going for at least a few series obviously depending on how long Mr Caville fancies it, but hopefully he has enjoyed playing the part as much as I've enjoyed watching and will continue into the coming years.

Finally a Witcher series - and who would of thought - Netflix would actually make it enjoyable and amazing to watch!

Scenery - Combat - Story (felt a bit rushed - but I understand why) - the dialogue and writing was great.

Great job! Can't wait for Season 2

Made An Account Just To Say How Good This Is
katehow24 December 2019
I have never read the books or played any of the games. I had been anticipating this show for some time, however, because I am a huge fan of Henry Cavil, and I wanted something to ease my disappointment with Game of Thrones. Having said all of this, people who say this show is hard to follow or even impossible to understand without the context given by the books and games are dead wrong. Just because this is a show that requires your complete attention and doesn't allow for you to sit on your phone with it playing in the background DOES NOT make it confusing to the point of being unwatchable. I actually find the nonlinear timelines to be incredibly refreshing and an interesting way to tell a story. It felt so good to reach episode four or five and finally see how each of the three main characters' stories intertwined with each other.

Henry is absolutely incredible in this, and he easily steals the show. Additionally, Jaskier is an annoying character at first, but the dynamic between him and Geralt soon becomes very entertaining and good comedic relief (almost reminds me of siblings picking on one another). Yennefer's storyline is very poignant and engrossing, and I did not find it difficult to empathize with her or Geralt's struggles in their world. This show is not without it flaws, as I did find Ciri's storyline to be a little boring and redundant, but every other amazing aspect of the series more than makes up for the few shortcomings of the writers. The fight choreography, acting skills of the three main characters, and the worldbuilding of a very new and intriguing fantasy world all make this show a 10/10 in my book.

I made an account after using IMDb for years solely because the negative reviews were making me so angry. Sure, I had questions about some aspects of the world and some of the lore behind it, but I also like elements of mystery and don't need everything explicitly explained to me like I am a child. The converging timelines are confusing, but it feels so cool when you finally understand what is happening (and again, it's really not something that needs to be explicitly explained unless you are not paying attention or skipping episodes *cough* EW *cough*). This show has mistakes as any first season of a show is bound to have, but all of the people leaving such negative reviews are just plain wrong and just mad that they don't immediately understand every little thing that is said or happens on screen. Pay attention, think a little bit, and you will not regret watching. I really think this show has the potential to be even better than Thrones, and I am eagerly awaiting season two.

Must watch twice!
joe-0576319 December 2021
Season 1 starts off strong but can get confusing to those with poor attention spans. I advise you watch season 1 twice, or at the very least, pay attention when you're watching. It gets better and better each episode. I love the twists and setups for season 2.

Cavill is a perfect Geralt and he makes me feel as if I never stopped playing the video game.

For fans of the series, The Witcher is a must watch.

It reminds me of another flawless and amazing show that is game of thrones. The theme and the feel is almost the same and i love it, i truly think this will be big the same way GOT was.

An epic creation by Lauren shmidt
aravindtejahydps24 December 2019
The Witcher is one of the most enthralling web series of 2019 with high scale graphics and mind-blowing acting from the cast .apart from this there is consonance of the web series to game and books but with certain entertaining changes , on a whole one of the best web series of 2019

Is it for fans of the game / books only?
sebastianbohlmann22 December 2019
I really dont get the hype about this. I haven't played the games but the story of the series is stupid and seems cheap. There is no backround to any of the characters or Factions? An Abortion Monster - really? Is this a series for the fans of the game / books or what is this? I really dont get it sorry, i tried. Henry Cavill is doing well though.

Ignore the bad reviews and just watch it
bhester080616 February 2021
I know for one I am late to a lot of shows because I listen to bad reviews and don't watch something only to find out later the show/movie was great all along.

They are right however in that HC carries the show, but who cares. Leo has carried anything he's ever been in along with most lead men.

Over all this is a good adaptation and a great tv show that will 100% leave you wanting more. Which luckily is coming soon. So watch it now !
