An industry insider revealed details from today's canceled God of War Ragnarök announcement, including plans for two Collectors Editions.

Reporter Tom Henderson revealed the details on Exputer, including confirmation that the canceled announcement did not mean God of War Ragnarök was delayed. Although Henderson did not explain what happened behind the scenes, he did reveal plans for two separate Collections Editions: The Collectors Edition and the Jotnar Edition. Both editions contain a 1:1 scale replica of Thor's Mjolnir hammer, though one has more goodies than just the Thunder God's iconic weapon. Those who purchase the full Collectors Edition also receive a map of the world, badges and other extras.

It doesn't come as much of a surprise that Mjolnir would feature prominently in the Collector's Editions. Thor appeared briefly in a hidden ending for the first game, and God of War Ragnarök's first trailer teased a massive battle between Thor and Kratos, the series' protagonist. Thor voice actor Ryan Hurst recently revealed he'd only just finished up work on the project -- mostly additional lines and a few extras typical at the tail end of production. The actor also revealed it was his first time using motion capture technology, which had a "steep learning curve" but an enjoyable one. "I always like to do new things, so to do a motion capture for a video game was...it was a lot of fun," said Hurst.

Although details remain scant on the game itself, that hasn't stopped fans from deeming God of War Ragnarök one of 2022's most anticipated titles. Though the series began life as a classic of the PlayStation 2, it became a joke within the community due to its dated quality, especially after 2013's God of War: Ascension. Then 2018's God of War revived the franchise, becoming one of the most lauded games of the year and earning back its title as an instant classic. Its success has even raised questions about whether God of War raised the bar too high for its sequel.

The canceled announcement, which had been previously leaked as a God of War Ragnarök release date reveal, angered many fans who've waited for news for months. This led to some fans crossing the line, sexually harassing God of War Cinematics Producer Estelle Tigani with explicit images in an attempt to make her reveal information.

God of War Ragnarok is scheduled for release sometime in 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
