Lucifer Twist: Netflix Wants to Keep the Show Going Beyond ‘Final’ Season 5
How’s this for a devil of a twist: Netflix is not ready to part ways with Lucifer.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Netflix is in talks with Warner Bros. Television to extend the hellacious drama’s lifespan beyond the previously announced (and forthcoming) fifth and “final” season. Netflix and Warner Bros. have yet to comment on the Season 6 buzz.
After airing for three seasons on Fox, Lucifer was “rescued” by Netflix in June 2018, just weeks after its cancellation. At the time, titular star Tom Ellis called the backlash to the cancellation — and subsequent #SaveLucifer campaign — “nothing short of ridiculously overwhelming,” adding, “Since doing Lucifer, I’ve done press in various parts of the world, and I’m fully aware that this show is much more popular than what it had seemed to be on Fox… So I’m not surprised about people being angry. I just wasn’t ready this tsunami of love that came with it.”
The 10-episode fourth season — released on Netflix in May 2019 — found the titular devil dealing with both a pesky priest and the return of his very first girlfriend, Eve. One month later, Netflix announced that it had renewed Lucifer for a concluding fifth season, which is currently in its final weeks of production. Season 5 will consist of 16 episodes that will air in two separate, eight-episode chunks (premiere date TBD).

oh my god!! All my favorite shows are ending: the 100, Supernatural, HTGAWM, etc. so please let this be true. I need season 6 in my life. I’m not ready to part with any of them, especially deckerstar.

Ummmm…why decide this now? Seriously, they just finished writing the “final” script. Anything after that would be dragging this story out. The writers were writing to conclude the series.
It’s rather frustrating considering that they announced a “final” season several months ago before it was even written. With that said, I have already come to terms with the inevitable end.
Besides, they kinda sorta added a 6th season with extra 6 episodes, which is better than 10.
I would rather let it play out in it’s epic finality than to dilute the overall story. I value quality over longevity.
Lol, because anyone who wants more episodes obviously just values longevity over quality, unlike super-speshul YOU. The fact is, you have no way of being sure that any additional episodes would be of lesser quality. But I have a suggestion for you. Since you’re dying for the show to end with season 5, quit watching then. No one will miss you.

They are one of the top watched streaming series hence the mind change and they might not yet have filmed the last episode so they may rewrite it.
Kate! I completely agree! I love this show like crazy but Lucifer just hit a severe growth in his emotional arc. Where do you go from that? Backwards? It makes sense to close the story up. So many times I’ve watched a show drag on and on until its destroyed by writers grasping for straws because they’ve run out of good material. I would rather see Lucifer come to a satisfying and well written end than see the series drag on into it’s own watery grave. I vote quality over longevity too!
Aww, I love this show but if they futz with the storyline to justify another season, how much longer can will they/won’t they last?
if the show starts adapting the comics more then they have a lot of places to take the show
because the writers have material to pull from in this case so the show can actually run longer
