Watch 12 minutes of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare campaign gameplay

A sneak attack leads to a dogfight in space

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare opens with a devastating attack on Geneva, and you, as Capt. Nick Reyes of the United Nations Space Alliance, must lead your squad through the city and then into space as you fight back against the Settlement Defense Front. You can see that sequence in a 12-minute gameplay video that developer Infinity Ward showed today at San Diego Comic-Con.

The footage comes from the beginning of Infinite Warfare, and is called "Black Sky." After the SetDef’s surprise assault on Geneva, Capt. Reyes and his crew encounter mechanized SetDef soldiers. Then they get the call to go airborne, and they hop into fighter jets that they fly straight upward — from the streets of Geneva to the black sky hundreds of kilometers above the Earth. In space, the UNSA squad takes on the SetDef forces; the Star Wars-esque battle ends with the destruction of a massive SetDef dropship.

Later in the game, Capt. Reyes becomes the commander of the UNSA Retribution, a spacecraft carrier that serves as your home base. You’ll prepare for missions on the warship, and return to it between operations. Infinite Warfare also offers side missions via the Retribution in which you can earn upgrades that will help your cause. You can see a tour of the Retribution’s flight deck in the video below.

Infinite Warfare publisher Activision also announced today that all pre-orders of the game will receive access to Terminal, a reimagined version of a fan-favorite multiplayer map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. In that game, the map was based in the airport where the infamous "No Russian" mission took place. This time around, Terminal is set in a shuttle port on the moon; a space shuttle replaces the airplane. You can see a piece of concept art for the new version of Terminal below.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is set for release Nov. 4 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. For more, check out our hands-off impressions of the "Black Sky" demo from E3 2016.
